Today’s Topic: A Perfect Fit
Scripture: When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”…Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” Luke 5:8, 10, NIV
When the rough fisherman Peter first realized who Jesus was, it exposed his heart as unworthy of Jesus’ presence. But only moments later, Jesus called Peter to become one of His fishers for people. Jesus could have chosen someone more talented, more educated, more refined, and with a religious background. He could have found someone from a more influential family, with a lot fewer weaknesses and less baggage. But on purpose He chose Peter. Although Jesus knew all the mistakes Peter would make, He knew that Peter was a perfect fit to become the apostle who would take the lead in the early church.
Don’t go your whole life thinking you don’t measure up, you don’t perform good enough, you’re not talented enough. You’ve been handpicked by the Creator of the universe. In spite of all the negatives you think about yourself, He calls you a masterpiece, one of a kind, fearfully and wonderfully made. Quit beating yourself up, thinking you don’t qualify. The fact that He chose you means He’s already equipped you, empowered you, and anointed you. Step into your greatness.
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that You see world changers in rugged fishermen like Peter. Thank You that You’re working in my life just as You did in Peter, and You will bring me to completion. I am looking beyond my flaws and failures to see the masterpiece in the making. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
TODAY’S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE: Think about the three Hebrew teenagers, Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego. They wouldn’t bow down to the king’s golden idol. They only worshipped Jehovah. When the king got word, he was furious. He said, “I’m going to give you one more chance. If you don’t bow, if you don’t shrink back and do like everyone else, you’re going to be thrown into a fiery furnace.” They had emotions just like us. They felt fear, intimidation. No doubt panic set in. “Man, this is life or death.”
Everything in them said, “Back down. Retreat. It’s not worth it.” This battle was taking place in their mind. They could have said, “Okay king, we’ve changed our minds. We’re going to bow.” It’s always easier to shrink back. It’s easier to get out from under the pressure, quit believing, quit stretching, not have to stand strong. But to reach your destiny, you have to do the hard thing. If it were easy, everyone would do it. God is looking for people who won’t be intimidated by the threats, won’t back down from the fear, won’t give up because of the disappointment, won’t run because the giant is much bigger.
Be a David. Do the hard thing. What I’ve found is when you do what’s difficult, there’s a grace that empowers you, a favor that enables you. It won’t be as hard as it looks. God will show up and breathe on your life with strength and courage, making ways where you don’t see a way, turning that sling shot into a mighty weapon that brings down giants.
